You need to be sure to do stuff in the right order in the catacombs. First find anri in the 1st location saying you haven't found Horace, then go find her in her 2nd location saying you haven't found him, then go to shouldering lake and kill him, go back and tell anri of the lake, kill wolnir, and continue as normal.

If she/he dies during the boss fight but i kill the pontiff sulyvahn does her questline still fail? Do i even have to summon her/he to do the pontiff sulyvahn for the (lord of hollows ending)?Don’t want to fail the quest this far into the game! I'm pretty sure you can still help Anri regardless of Aldrich's state. I think I have done that at some point. Anri's summon sign at the giant doors is more akin to you putting your sign down and getting summoned. Argh I’ve got two opposite answers!

If you killed them the Anri quest takes a different branch but locks off the hidden ending because Yuria gets mad at you.
