When I spawned in on fjordur I immediately teleported to asgard north which is close to an obelisk so I could get my gear and tames. Then teleport back to midgard (main map) with your tames and gear. Keep in mind you cant fly in asgard except on the new Desmondis, so plan accordingly on what you take with you as far as tames.

There are no explorer notes or dossiers on Fjordur. Only runes which give you a similar XP boost, and a max level increase if you find 100 (+5) or 200 (another +5). I find that kind of counter-intuitive for actual new players.
