I recommend the Handy trait or the Repairman occupation. Carry 1 spear in your hands and one in your back, also carry a bunch of them in your backpack as spares. Branches weigh less than spears, so instead of carrying crafted spears, you can just carry a knife and a bunch of branches. I recommend a "Swap It" mod btw.
