Public transport is basically non existent in SoCal. It would take you 3 to 4 times the time to get to UCI if you want to take the buses, metro, train, then bus again. Shuttle2lax is pretty good (they go both ways) but I haven’t used them since pre pandemic so maybe it changed. Uber costs around $60 to $80 from lax to uci.

In recent years the ICS student community has finally started to take shape, there's a lot more social and academic support if you need/want it. People are friendly and awesome here but to some extent you have to reach out (people seem to forget that). Also what I love about UCI is the huge park in the center.
