That serial number makes sense for a 1958 production year for a .357 Magnum Blackhawk. Custom .44 SPL. Since it appears no one else is going to say it:..It didn't come from Ruger as a .44 Special. Turning a Factory piece into a .44 Special was/is a popular conversion, many started life as a re-barreled .357.

One is serialized in the Super Blackhawk range of 87-xxxxx with a 6 1/2" barrel. The other is serialized in the 41 Magnum range with the 4 5/8" barrel starting at 48-xxxxx. I've never been aware of any Flat Tops in 41 Magnum. This early Ruger Blackhawk .41 Magnum with serial number 67 was owned by Elmer Keith, who was the driving force in convincing Smith & Wesson, Bill Ruger and Remington to work together and develop this cartridge. Her serial number indicates that she was born in 1971 and at least to my eyes, she looks pretty darned good! After a bit of haggling and settling on the price ($525.00), she went home with me to meet the younger version with 6-1/2" bbl.
