The 2/64 sounds all right, but the Gumby (esp. the A1) is truly special. But… the SE outputs of the Gungnir do sound worse than the XLR, so you might actually save money and time going Bifrost. I actually prefer the 2 with AD chips over the 2/64 with its 4 TI chips. 3. I'm not so sure the Modi is a good representation of what Schiit is capable of. I've heard the Bifrost is a decent DAC and is probably more than a few notches above the Modi. Interesting. I'm interested in a Modi Multibit to replace a dragonfly Red. Both the Red and the built in DAC in the Hegel are on both sides of where I'd like to be.

It offered a similar sound to the Bifrost MB at a fraction of the price and size. Those with hopes this will be a repeat of that release will be sorely disappointed. The MMB2 unfortunately does not reach for the performance of Bifrost 2/64, it reaches in a different direction than even the MMB1 despite using the same chip at heart.

The Bifrost 2 has taking a major step in the chips it uses which are very similar now to the Gungnir and Yggdrasil but a slightly lesser specced version. The BF2 runs the AD5781ARUZ chips and the Gungnir runs the AD5781BRUZ. However on its own merits, the 2/64 is a really competent DAC. Used prices for the gungnir have fallen though, so you can pick one up for a hundred or a couple hundred more than a Bifrost with tax and shipping. As much as buying used schiit sounds stellar, I completely regret buying my vidar used.
