No matter how hard I push the slide release button down while pulling the slide to the rear it would not release with empty magazine inserted. Then after about 300 rounds it tried again and it worked. I think yours just needs to break in.

The Brass Stacker pull ring shouldn't have done anything to make the slide catch any harder to press allowing the slide to go into battery.
