City is the best overall. It's like a better version of Asylum (though Asylum is very unique) Origins and Knight are more advanced but they don't catch the atmosphere and tension like the previous games. But a plaque commemorating the building of Arkham City (AC has been open for less than a year when the game AC takes place, per the comic) says that it's sometime in the 1990s.
