In 1986 if the oil level is OK the relay is not activated. If you can remove the oil level switch wiring from the circuit it would give the same result. Oil level low the relay is activated and the power to the starter is interrupted. There are special instructions to remove the oil level switch from the engine without damage.

I have a 42" rear discharge deck, and the 310 does a good job with it. save yourself a lot of greif and try and get a deck in good condition. you will need a mule drive also, if you don't already have one. my experience has been that you will probably have to spend $175-250 to get a good deck and mule drive.

No need to remove the pto pulley. Remove the 2 bolts holding the brake pad on. Then the belt will come off. To put the brake back on apply the pto. Place a business card between the brake pad and the pto bell. Hold it tight and tighten the bolts. Release the pto and remove business card.
